Throughout last week, our class explored the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We had so much fun re-telling the story during learning center time and story time. At the end of the week, we made Porridge Pancakes. Below is a video of all the fun we had with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We had a lot of fun! This past week, we have been talking about the Winter Olympics that are taking place in Russia. Tomorrow is the Opening Ceremonies for this event. This is the reason your child may be mentioning fireworks and mascots. This is just a quick reminder that our February Family Event is tomorrow.
When: 2:30 to 3:30 PM Where: Long Term Care at the Hospital (First Entrance when you on the road near John Deer) What We Are Doing: We will be making a fun Valentines Day craft with the residents. We will be having a delicious snack after we finish creating our beautiful masterpieces. We look forward to seeing you there! :) Last week we celebrated Chinese New Year in our classroom! We learned that Chinese New Year is a two week celebration! To get ready for our own celebration, we made Chinese lanterns for our lantern festival parade taking place at the end of the week. We had fun moving our bodies in different ways while ribbon dancing in the gymnasium. The next day we talked about what fire works are used for and watched a video of a firework show. We talked about how they are used for parties or to celebrate holidays. Fireworks are also used to scare away bad spirits and monsters during Chinese New Year. We made firework paintings with dish brushes and sparkles. They are beautiful! On Wednesday we talked about how dragons are important to Chinese New Year. Dragons are linked to good luck, long life and wisdom. We made some colourful dragon masks. On Thursday we learned a dragon song and dance. We used our dragon masks to participate in this dance. Our favourite part was when the song said "Chinese Dragons shake their tales, shake their tales, shake their tales. Chinese Dragons shake their tales on Chinese New Year Day!" We laughed and laughed and laughed. We went on our lantern festival parade around the school and wished everyone we saw "Happy Chinese New Year!" To wrap up our celebration, we made a sparkler snack out of bananas, chocolate icing and sprinkles. It was delicious!! Celebrating Chinese New Year in our classroom was SO MUCH FUN!
