Pre-K Year End Celebration 2014

6/27/2014

Wow!  Where has the past year gone?!?! The past two years in Pre-K have been amazing, in so many ways!!  Spending most of the year with little people  is an amazing way to re-live your childhood and we really get to see the world through a child’s eyes!

Well if it wasn’t for this amazing woman right here, none of this would be possible!  Sandra we’ve been through so much the past two years and I am so sad that this is the end and I am going to be missing my other half!! Thank you for everything you do!! I couldn’t do it without you!

I may be the teacher, but I have learned some very important information from your children this past year.
I’ve learned that popcorn seeds can grow popcorn trees if you plant them like any other kind of seed.  I’ve learned that all you need is a little tape to fix a broken heart.  Oh, and I’ve learned that the movie Frozen is addicting beyond belief and that “Let It Go” and the other songs from it never get old!  (Especially when your students are screaming them at the top of their lungs).

But, most importantly I’ve learned that Winnie the Pooh was right when he said: "Sometimes, the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."  Your children have taken up all the space in my heart!

It has been a privilege working with you and your children this year.  Thank you for all your support and making our pre-k program a success through attending school regularly and attending our family events!

Just know each of your children have left their handprint on my heart and I’ll be sure to take them with me wherever I end up in the adventures that come my way.

Good luck to all of our students and their families heading into their next adventures.  Have a safe and wonderful summer!

-Miss Baker

Wow!  I can’t believe it is that time of year where we wrap up our program and say goodbye to your wonderful children!  The following will tell you what this last week will look like:

TUESDAY, JUNE 17th: Wet & Wild Day will be cancelled due to the ugly weather forecast.
Please send your child to school like you normally would any other day.  Instead of playing outside for the majority of the day, we’ll be planning a fun activity for inside.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18th: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
Please send your child like you normally would any other day.  We will be sending home their extra clothing, shoes, and a few other odds and ends.

YEAR END CELEBRATION will be taking place in the evening on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the gym.  The entrance near the office will be the only entrance open.  This is where your child will receive his/her portfolio with all of his/her work from the school year in it.  There will be a short program and then treats to follow.  Your child has worked extremely hard and it is time to celebrate their achievements!!  Please bring your camera!

All families are greatly encouraged to attend this event.
We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night!

It Looked LIke Pre-K Had Fun Making Pictures!

We read "It Looked Like Spilt Milk" by Charles G. Shaw.  We guessed the pictures in the book on each page.  Each picture represented a cloud in the sky.  We talked about different pictures we see when we look up at the clouds.

After, we created pictures of clouds out of shaving cream, food colouring and glue.  It was so much fun!  We hung them up to decorate our classroom.  They look wonderful!!

We have been focusing largely on our fine-motor skills in our program this year.  To help strengthen this skill area, we made some beautiful (and delicious) rainbow bracelets out of cereal and pipe cleaners.

Getting Ready For Our Celebration of Learning

Over the past few weeks your child has been very busy getting ready for our Celebration of Learning festivities, that took place last week.  Our students worked hard on making beautiful artwork to display in our classroom and in the hallway for you to admire.  They were busy learning to sing "Five Speckled Frogs" and to tell the story "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".   They were also busy practicing their patterning skills.

The day before our Celebration, our students made balloon art to hang from the ceiling.  They gave 100% of their efforts!!

On Monday, we made play-doh in small groups!  We helped mix the ingredients together and picked the colours to add to the play-doh.  The next day at school, we played with our new play-doh and used our imaginations to make many different and unique creations!  Below is a video of the many items we created on our own.

Throughout last week, our class explored the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We had so much fun re-telling the story during learning center time and story time.  At the end of the week, we made Porridge Pancakes.  Below is a video of all the fun we had with Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We had a lot of fun!
